EUTR: this product complies with the European Timber Regulation – 995/2010. This European regulation prohibits the marketing of illegally harvested wood. The party that first places the product on the European market has a duty of care to demonstrate that the product has not been illegally harvested or traded.
This product is machine dried back (kiln dried) to a moisture content that is in balance with the typical outdoor usage. Upon delivery, the product has a more or less elaborated shape and will mainly shrink or expand (provided assembling instructions are properly applied) depending on the weather conditions.
This product is sorted according to the FAS (First and Second) grade. This is the most common and also the highest grade of (tropical) hardwood. With this grading, at least 83.3% of the wood is free from defects, small defects can occur over the remaining part. For complete defect-free processing, this product must be assembled saw-falling.
Cumaru is one of the hardest woods from the Amazon region. The durability is very high thanks to the good resistance to wood-destroying fungi and insects. Cumaru has a beautiful flame pattern and a beautiful color.
Cumaru is a reliable building material when it comes to structures that are subject to heavy loads. As a construction timber, it is ideal for outdoor applications such as bridges and locks and outdoor furniture in public areas. In addition, the wood is often used for wooden decking and terraces. Cumaru is also very suitable for heavily loaded floors in industry or in workshops.
This type of wood has a high density and a somewhat coarser structure that is often homogeneous. The fiber course is usually tightly alternating and often irregular. The grain is generally straight, but the wood has a rather pronounced crosshair. The grain is moderately coarse. Over the years, Cumaru discolours to a beautiful gray shade.
Cumaru can be processed like a typical hardwood species. Screw connections must be pre-drilled to avoid cracks and damage. In addition, we always advise to use stainless steel screws and fasteners, this prevents stains on the wood. Make sure you have sharp tools due to the high hardness and the irregular wire.
Caution: Deep milling, longitudinal sawing or re-cutting can expose stresses. These stresses may have arisen during drying and processing. This is one of the reasons why we recommend adding 10% wood to your order. This way you can be sure that you have enough material to work with.
