Important properties of [specie] rough sawn beams

  • Rough sawn wood is wood that has been sawn from the trunk. It is therefore also known as sawn wood. Rough / sawn boards can have a size difference in thickness and width. It is best to use planed wood if the application requires a fixed size.
  • Sawn (raw) wood comes directly from our sawmill. This may cause painted markings on the wood.
  • We supply timber at trade length. This means: not sawn square and not shortened to length, often with some excess length.
  • Dry cracks can be seen on the headsides. Always calculate at least 10 cm extra saw loss in length.
  • Correct installation is very important. Good ventilation, sufficient framing and correct fastening are required. Before you start, read our mounting tips and -regulations carefully!

Sustainability:

EUTR: this product complies with the European Timber Regulation – 995/2010. This European regulation prohibits the marketing of illegally harvested wood. The party that first places the product on the European market has a duty of care to demonstrate that the product has not been illegally harvested or traded.

AD Humidity

This wood has been freshly sawn and is stored in our semi-open storage. The longer the wood is in storage, the more it will dry. When AD (Air Dried) wood dries too quickly, for example when used indoors or when it is in full sun, it will shrink and dryness cracks and/or bends can occur. We advise not to process AD in-house.

C24 Grading

The wood is graded at the sawmill in accordance with strength class C24. The difference with C18 is that C24 scores slightly better on technical data such as bending strength, tensile strength, compressive strength and density. Visually, the difference is in the annual rings. Softwood in accordance with class C24 will have slightly finer annual rings than softwood in accordance with class C18.

Douglas

Douglas is a type of wood that originates from North America, but also grows and is cultivated in Europe. It is one of the most useful types of wood found in Europe. It is fast growing and easy to work. Douglas can be used in various outdoor projects and is affordable compared to other types of wood.

Douglas is a type of wood that is ideal for garden fencing or roofs and as wall cladding for a home or roof. The wood is naturally very strong and is therefore sold untreated. In contrast to impregnated spruce, Douglas is not treated, but it falls into the same durability class. This type of wood is therefore also seen as a more environmentally friendly alternative to garden wood.

The wood has a yellow to pink color and has broad annual rings of 5 to 10 millimeters. The small, scattered resin channels are barely visible in the fine-growing material and contain resin. This gives the fresh wood its characteristic scent.

Advantages

  • Beautiful drawing and natural appearance
  • Naturally strong
  • < li>excellent durability provided no direct ground contact
  • Long lengths available
  • Straight and stable

Processing

Douglas is a type of wood that is easy to work with. The planks and beams must be pre-drilled before bolting. In addition, we always advise to use stainless steel screws and fasteners, this prevents stains on the wood. We do not recommend gluing, because shrinkage stresses occur with this wood.

Note: Deep milling, sawing lengthwise or sawing again can expose stresses. These stresses may have arisen during drying and processing. This is one of the reasons why we recommend adding 10% wood to your order. This way you can be sure that you have enough material to work with.

What are rough sawn beams?

Sawn [specie] is also sometimes called fine sawn [specie] or rough sawn [specie]. It concerns machine-sawn wood without any post-processing. Sawn wood still has wood fibers on the surface and a robust appearance. Sawn [specie] may contain imperfections on the surface, as well as slight variations in width or thickness. Sawn wood is not completely dimensionally stable and may not be completely square. [profile1-seo2] [profile1-seo3]
