EUTR: this product complies with the European Timber Regulation – 995/2010. This European regulation prohibits the marketing of illegally harvested wood. The party that first places the product on the European market has a duty of care to demonstrate that the product has not been illegally harvested or traded.
This wood has been freshly sawn and is stored in our semi-open storage. The longer the wood is in storage, the more it will dry. When AD (Air Dried) wood dries too quickly, for example when used indoors or when it is in full sun, it will shrink and dryness cracks and/or bends can occur. We advise not to process AD in-house.
This product is sorted according to the FAS (First and Second) grade. This is the most common and also the highest grade of (tropical) hardwood. With this grading, at least 83.3% of the wood is free from defects, small defects can occur over the remaining part. For complete defect-free processing, this product must be assembled saw-falling.
Massaranduba is a type of wood from South America and has a red to dark brown color. There are many different uses for this resilient and durable wood. It is a solid and heavy type of wood. Characteristics of the wood are its strength, hardness and heaviness. If the wood falls into water, it will sink.
This type of wood is ideal as a decking or terrace plank. The wood is very strong, but easy to work with and to finish nicely. Massaranduba has a higher coefficient of shrinkage and expansion so adequate spacing and ventilation between planks is very important. Due to the somewhat higher expansion coefficient, only screw connections are recommended for Massaranduba. In contrast, Massaranduba is much harder, more durable and stronger than, for example, Bankirai. Massaranduba is excellently suited for traditionally mounted and screwed decking.
Massaranduba has a homogeneous and fine texture, which gives the wood a nice and calm appearance. Occasionally, a wavy thread with some faint, shiny streaks is present. The characteristic red color of Massaranduba will quickly discolour to dark brown in sunlight and eventually the gray will weather to dark grey.
As with all hard and heavy woods, it is important to use the appropriate tools for processing. Pre-drilling when screwing is necessary. In addition, we always advise to use stainless steel screws and fasteners, this prevents stains on the wood.
Note: Deep milling, sawing lengthwise or sawing again can expose tensions. These stresses may have arisen during drying and processing. This is one of the reasons why we recommend adding 10% wood to your order. This way you can be sure that you have enough material to work with.
